FISCHER, Kathleen Diane Fischer (Lankford), 57, passed away peacefully in her home on December 8th, 2018, following a hard fought battle with cancer. Her children, with the help of Community Hospice were able to honor her wish to pass in the comfort of her home. Kathy was very grateful that her daughter, Kelli, was able to lovingly care for her during the final months. Kathy is preceded in death by her husband Mickey Fischer and mother Mary Lankford, as well as, her father in-law Bill Fischer, sister-in-law Lynn Goldwire, brother-in-law Ricky Fischer, and others she looks forward to seeing. She is survived by her daughter Kelli Cooney (Jimmy) of Jacksonville, FL, son Austin Fischer (Alicia) and grandson Hudson Fischer of Jacksonville, FL; father Tillman James Lankford of Jacksonville, FL, sisters Teresa Currell of Selah, WA, Peggy Lankford of Jacksonville, FL, Margie Schmitt (Dennis) of Bedford, TX, and brother Jim Lankford (Maria) of Palm Harbor, FL; mother-in-law Carol Fischer of Jacksonville, FL, brother-in-law Greg Fischer (Cindy) of Arlington, VA, and very special niece Jennifer Ware (Chris) of Jacksonville, FL.
Kathy was born on June 19, 1961 to T.J. and Mary Lankford and was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, attending Bishop Kenny High School and graduating from Sandalwood High School in 1979. She attended the University of Florida, which was followed by a very successful IT career, most recently as a Database Administrator for Kemper. She made lifelong friendships with her co-workers along the way, sharing in many lunch outings, business trips, and even skydiving for her 50th birthday.
However, Kathy's most joyful moments came with her family. Kathy was the youngest of five. Many memories have been made with her siblings from antics in the childhood home on Seabrook Parkway to annual beach house trips with the whole family.
Kathy married the love of her life, Charles Michael Fischer (Mickey) in 1982. This was followed by 2 children and worlds of adventure, mostly exploring the outdoors with boat trips and time spent at the family lake house in Keystone Heights.
Kathy was also an animal lover, having 2 faithful golden retriever companions during her widow years, Goldberg followed by Lucas. The family's menagerie of animals over time additionally included another dog, 3 cats, a ferret, and even a squirrel named Toodles. She had a special connection with them all and they returned the love. Lucas rarely left Kathy's bedside during her final days.
Perhaps most importantly, Kathy was a dedicated and selfless mother who helped her children achieve their goals in whichever way she could. She was also a sweet and nurturing grandmother to her grandson Hudson, whom she affectionately called "Scooter Pie."
Kathy lived a wonderful life and left a lasting impact on family, pets, friends, and more. Her selfless and laid-back attitude radiates in everyone who was close to her that she leaves behind. Words cannot describe how much she will be missed.
A funeral mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 742 Arlington Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211 on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 11:00am. Father Edward Murphy, Kathy's cousin, presiding.
