Age 74, passed away May 6, 2020. Born September 13, 1945 in Jacksonville, FL, the fourth of seven children born to John Layton (Johnnie) Dowling and Josephine O. Dowling. Mr. Dowling was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, with the exception of the twenty years he spent on active military duty in the US Air Force. He retired from the Air Force in 1984 and was a Vietnam Veteran. Upon his retirement from military service, he returned to Jacksonville and worked at Coggin Pontiac as a service writer; Matheny Jaguar as the service manager and at Mike Davidson Ford as warranty manager. He was a member of The American Legion.
Mr. Dowling bowled for 33 years at Jax Lanes where his perfect 300 game is memorialized on the wall, was an avid golfer, fisherman, gardener and poker player.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Johnnie Layton Dowling and Josephine Dowling; daughter Lori Dowling Clements; sisters Yvonne Dowling Fisher and Nancy Dowling Wagers; brothers (Big) Johnie Dowling and Michael Dowling.
Surviving are his wife, Helga Dowling; daughter Nicole Dowling (Gary Lyles); son Kenneth Dowling (Karen); brother Claude Dowling (Jackie); sister Geraldine Morgan (Jim); grandson Christopher Collard; lifelong friend Lynn Van Sickel Aguilar (Pete); stepson Robert Thomas; stepdaughter Carol Thomas Summers and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral service and internment to be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date by invitation.
