Adam Andrew Smith, 39, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020, in Jacksonville, FL. He was born on February 19, 1981 in Jacksonville, FL, son of Malcolm Andrew (Andy) Smith and Angela Rene (Angie) Portier. He lived in Orlando, FL until 1996, when his parents divorced and he moved to Gulf Port, MS with his mother and stepfather. He graduated from Harrison Central High School in Gulf Port, MS in 1999 and moved back to Jacksonville, FL after graduation to work as a maintenance technician for Sears. He rose through the ranks at Sears for nearly 20 years then moved as a Maintenance Technician 3 to Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), a subcontractor for Amazon. He met Flor de Liz Jimenez Silvan in 2009 and they were married in 2014.
Adam was a devoted husband, stepfather, son, brother, nephew, and cousin. He was truly loved by everyone who knew him. Adam was special from the day he was born. We often joked that his feet never touched the ground for the first two years of his life as he had a great great grandmother, a great grandmother, two grandmothers, two grandfathers, three aunts, and three uncles fighting over holding him. He could light up a room with his laughter and sheer presence. In high school, he traveled all over the country as a trombone and baritone player in the school marching band. He showed a flair for drawing at an early age, producing detailed drawings well ahead of others in his age group. With no prior background in maintenance or repair, he self-taught himself how to fix things and became the "go to" guy in the Sears maintenance department. When an opportunity came up to transfer to JLL located within Amazon, he was offered a position before he formally applied for a job. Based on his demonstrated knowledge and work ethic, he again became the "fixer" at JLL. He married the "love of his life," Flor de Liz, and they enjoyed a wonderful life until his sudden and untimely passing. He enjoyed being around family and was always a focal point at all family gatherings and holiday fetes. There was always a noticeable disappointment in later years when he had to work holidays and couldn't be present. Adam will always occupy a special place in our hearts. As you go through life, you can take solace in knowing that you have known a truly good man. We miss him dearly.
Adam is survived by his wife, Flor de Liz; stepson, Carlos Magana; father, Andy Smith; mother, Angie (Portier) Johnson; stepfather, Buddy Johnson; sister, Amanda Smith; aunts, Nancy (Dede) Bradford, Kim (Danny) Patrick, Nancy (Kenneth) Winn; uncle, Greg Smith; great aunt Katy Viola (Kathryn) McKenzie Leeper; cousins, Chris Patrick, Paul Patrick, Christina Winn, Chris Winn, Heather (Bradford) Utter, and Darby (Bradford) Larkin; special cousins, Cathy (Leeper) Sininger and Charlie Sininger; special "Uncle" Frank Winn and friend Herb Fouraker; numerous other cousins and friends.
