ALICE SMITH WHITAKER COLLINS 95, of Jacksonville Fl, for over 60 years, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday August 14, 2019. Mrs. Collins was born December 27, 1923 in Alglers New Orleans La to Edward B Smith of Portland Me, and Corinne Lopez Smith of Key West Fl. Alice and her husband Paul R. Whitaker Jr, U.S. Navy and their two children transferred to Jacksonville in 1949. They married in Pensacola Fl. on December 24 1941. Both had graduated from Leon High School Tallahassee. Her maternal grandparents were early settlers in Key West. Her paternal grandparents were from Portland Me, Canada and Prince Edward Island. She retired from U.S.Federal Civil Service positions with NAS JAX, IRS, and FANG after Dec 1 1989. Alice was a member of the Regency Church of God (CT), an easy going very quiet selfless lady whose passion especially in her early family life was to make sure her children were taken care of throughout their life. She will be remembered for many things but most definitely for her sweet spirit, strength, integrity, and love of family and friends. She loved the Lord God, Jesus and the blessed Holy Spirit. Alice was her mother's sole caregiver for about 20 years. She loved volunteering with Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for many years; art, "family radio music, and her church choir, also the ocean and tropical flowers being raised in South Florida and Long Island NY. She especially loved her little dog Miss Belle & mixed Worland Lab. Mrs. Collins Was predeceased by her parents, baby son James Edward Whitaker 1944, and daughter Sandra Alice Whitaker Clark 1989. Alice is survived by her dearly loved son Paul R. Whitaker III (Loma) of Freeport II, and Florida, three grandchildren, Paul IV, Heather (Robert),
Julia (George), and two great grandsons, Noah and Lucas Hulbert of Paris Tn. Many thanks and appreciation to the dedicated staff and Dr. Isabella Z. Riffe MD of Mayo Clinic for their years of help and care. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 27,2019 at 1pm at Chapel Hill Cemetery Jacksonville, Florida.
