"It is so powerful it is causing my body to literally move, I have to move to contain it isn't that crazy"?
~Ami D. Ridenour~
Ami was born on June 1, 1977 in South Carolina and made her final journey home to meet her sister
Bethani in the heavens above on February 14, 2021 in Jacksonville, FL.
As a mentor, student, artist, teacher, registered nurse and avid traveler... Ami always chose the road less
traveled. She taught in Africa, Saipan and Florida, and she accepted travel nursing positions in St. Croix,
Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Alaska, and Hawaii. Her artistic expressions are scattered amongst
friend's homes, they hang on the walls of her brother's house, they are displayed lovingly on her
mother's bedside tables; they are reminiscent of how she saw the world, they are her... beautiful,
colorful, vibrant and moving. Ami was a deep soul, spirited and humorous, passionate and loving, a
true warrior. She could quiet an agitated crowd with her gentle voice, tell an obscene joke at the most
random moment, diagnose a friend's ailments, then eat a rack of ribs without a stain left on her shirt.
She had classic good looks, she was feisty, she had moxie! She will best be remembered by her motto of
living each day to the fullest... "Trust the journey", she'd say.
She loved to travel, to move about the world and see what she couldn't while standing still. She loved
music, and to swim in the rain, she was always up for an adventure. Although Ami's cancer returned
and she began chemo treatment in March 2019, she continued to move about the country. She traveled
to the gorges of Georgia to hike the trails, experienced the 116 degree heat in Palm Springs, she
whitewater rafted in California and W. Virginia, biked/hiked in Hawaii, she saw lighthouses in Maine,
sailed on the Chesapeake Bay, shot a 9 mil for the first time in PA, camped on the California coast, and
kayaked and paddle boarded many rivers and creeks of Florida. While Ami was home resting along the
Gulf of Mexico, she could be found boating on the bay, eating at the local Indian caf, or shooting hoops
at the park. Of all places, her favorite spot was to be curled up with her life partner Jessica and their
dogs Harley and Mazey.
Ami was loved and will be missed by many friends all over the world. She will always be loved and
remembered by her extended ohana in California, her loving partner, many aunts, uncles, cousins,
nieces and nephew, her brother Ross, sister-in-law Kaylene, and her mother Mary. A Celebration of Life
is planned on Mar 20, 2021 on her Aunt Tammy's farm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the
nearest Rails to Trails State initiatives. Rest in heaven sweet Ami!
