Andrew Ohar, Sr was born March 2, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa to parents George and Mary
Ohar. He passed away on April 30, 2020 at the age of 92.
He was the youngest of six children born to Carpathian Rusyn immigrants. He was raised
in Buffalo, NY. He followed his brothers' footsteps and enlisted in the USMC during WWII.
After his service he moved to Miami, Fl to attend the University of Miami. He was recalled back
to service during the Korean war and placed school on hold. He eventually married his wife
Patricia Haseley Ohar of 57 years and they returned to Miami so he could finish his academics.
He graduated from the University of Miami in 1954 with a graduate degree in Russian and
German. He also played the French horn in the university marching band.
Dad will be remembered for his work ethics and instilling the same in his children. He valued higher education and encouraged his children in those endeavors. His love for the Bills and Hurricanes kept weekends full of football. His artistic mind flowed from oil paintings to writing, including several articles in print during his college years. He often joked about living long enough for the Buffalo Bills and Miami Hurricanes to bring home a championship.
He is predeceased by his parents George and Mary Ohar, his brother John Ohar (KIA during WWII USCG), his brother George Ohar USMC and his sister Rose Stevenson. He is survived by his brother Michael Ohar USN (Betty) and sister Mary Martin both in Titusville, Fl. He is also survived by his children Mary Brown (David), Andrew Ohar, Junior (Darlene), Karen Ohar, Carol Thompson, Robin Ohar, and Tracy Pickett (Bryan) all in Jacksonville, Florida. He also has 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
