Ann Rhoden, 89, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 13,
2024. She was born in Jacksonville on November 30, 1934, to Samuel C. and Florence V.
Baker. As the daughter of a prolific pastor, she grew up in various churches around Northeast
Florida, and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. While her father was serving as
pastor of Dinsmore Baptist Church, she met Virgil Lindsey Rhoden. They were married on May
16, 1953.
When Virgil joined the US Airforce, Ann joined him in his service traveling to Eglin Airforce Base
in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where Debbie and Nickie were born. Then living in Dover,
Delaware, where Lin was born. After a brief time back in Jacksonville, they were stationed in
Okinawa for over two years. After another stop in Port Lavaca, Texas, the family moved home to
Jacksonville, while Virgil finished his tour of duty over the next few years. Once back in
Jacksonville, Ann remained faithful to serving the Lord at Dinsmore Baptist Church in an
assortment of positions including but not limited to teacher, kitchen worker, Pre-School Choir
Director, Sunday School Secretary, and Church Organist.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Florence Baker (nee Gladden); her
husband Virgil; her grandson Sam Gordon; and her brothers Martinez, Floyd, and Clyde Baker.
She is survived by her daughters Debbie Rhoden and Nickie Williams (Med), her son Lin
Rhoden (Jennifer); her grandchildren Jessi Gordon Arpen (Graham), Aaron (Ericka) and Zak
Rhoden; and her great grandchildren Jessi Marie Gordon, Aaliyah Ramseur, and Heath
Rhoden.
Services for Ann will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Dinsmore Baptist
Church, 10500 Old Kings Road, Jacksonville, FL 32219. The family will receive friends at
10:00am, with her celebration of life at 11:00am. After a brief graveside service, there will be a
reception in the Fellowship Hall at Dinsmore Baptist. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made
in Ann's honor to your favorite charity.
