Betsy Jennings White, loving mother and friend of many, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the age of 95 of complications from a recent stroke while in Memorial Hospital.
Born December 5, 1920 in Knoxville, TN, Betsy was pre-deceased by her parents, John C. and Louise Jennings, older brothers Jack and Kahle Jennings, and former husband, Ric White. After attending Farmville College for Women (now Longwood University) in Farmville, Virginia, Betsy moved to Jacksonville in the early ‘40s to marry. She worked in Personnel at Prudential Insurance Company and after retiring went on to be the office manager at Southside Orthopedic, now JOI. She loved sports and was a former city tennis champion in Knoxville and multiple time champion at San Jose Country Club. A very faithful Christian, Betsy attended Grace Chapel (San Jose Episcopal) and All Saints Episcopal Church for many years.
Betsy loved to participate in all programs and events at Taylor Manor where she lived. She also enjoyed attending the Friday Musicale and Prudential retiree events as well as volunteering at All Saints Church, especially the Nearly New Shop, and Lakewood Methodist Church.
Betsy would want to thank her many friends and caregivers at Taylor Manor. She loved her time there, especially cruising around on her scooter, attending Wednesday services and visiting friends in the Taylor Care Center. Special thanks also to Marty and Bernadine Hussey and Ruth Bailey for so often providing Betsy with transportation to church and other events.
Betsy is survived by her children Lyn White (Kevin), Ed White (Kim) and Bob White (Becky) as well as grandchildren Kelly McIntosh (Buck), Andy Lockey (Michelle), Matthew White, Katye Daley (John), Drew White, and great-grandchildren Jake McIntosh and Taylor Lockey.
A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 4171 Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32207, at 2:00pm on Wednesday, March 30. A reception will follow in the church Parish Hall.
