Carol Bell Charity, 88, departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, at her home from her daughters loving arms, back to her husband's.
Carol, lovingly called Carolyn by her family, was born on September 19, 1932, in Newark, NJ, a daughter of Robert Ulysses White and Clara B. Taylor Bell.
After attending Julia Richmond high school in New York City, she met and married Earl Arthur Charity, the love of her life. The couple married on November 18, 1952, in Youngstown, Ohio where they made their home for the next 62 years. She pursued her career as a wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver to multiple family members.
Over the years, she helped to support her husband and together they owned several businesses, including nightclubs, a tire recapping service, a gas/service station, a grocery store, wig styling and a boxing gym that spanned a city block.
Carol loved to travel as first lady to her husband, who was the National Commander of the Army and Navy Union USA.
In her retirement, Carol, with her husband often enjoyed fishing. She enjoyed bingo and going to the casino with her niece Denise Charity. She also loved raising Norwegian Elkhounds, (Princess, Honey and Star) for several generations.
She had a personal and individual relationship with her family members, her friends and children in the neighborhood. She was never reluctant to lend a helping hand to those in need.
She sacrificed everything that she had for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Love of family meant everything to her. She was a caregiver to her mother and both of her grandmother's, Jessie Hayes and Reatha B White with whom she shared a special relationship
