Carol Gene Ekman Morris**, beloved mother, grandmother, educator, and artist, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024, at her daughter's home in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on July 16, 1943, in Waukegan, Illinois, Carol was 80 years old.
She is survived by her loving family: her son Bryce H. Morris and his two sons, Rhyan H. Morris and Jacob M. Morris; her daughter Jennifer J. Cloin, her son-in-law Michael L. Cloin, and their three children, Dawson L. Cloin, Ethan M. Cloin, and Ashlin N. Cloin. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Oscar Ekman and Rowena Prather Ekman; her brothers Michael, Peter, and William Ekman; and her husband, James Howard Morris.
Carol earned both her Bachelor's and Master's of Science in Art Education from Eastern Illinois University. She also studied Elementary Education at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois. Carol's career as an art instructor and elementary teacher allowed her to make a significant impact on her students in every state she and her husband visited during their frequent moves. Carol later pursued post-graduate studies in Special Education at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. She served as a lead teacher and supervisor of remedial reading at PACE School for Girls in Tallahassee, FL.
Known for her deep faith and love of the Bible, Carol was an active participant in and leader of ladies' Bible studies and group prayers. She discovered her passion for watercolor painting while at Florida State in the early 1990s, which she enjoyed teaching to her grandchildren and homeschooling children. For the past 19 years, Carol was actively involved in her art league, even serving as Vice President for a time. Her heart and soul were dedicated to Bible study, watercolor painting, and her grandchildren.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, at Agap� Church, located at 10600 Colerain Rd., St. Marys, GA 31558. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Agape Church elder care fund in Carol's name, as the church provided phenomenal support and love to her in her latter years.
Carol Gene Ekman Morris will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
