Caroline Alden (Carol) Smith (née Clarke) died peacefully on March 2, 2015, in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 95.
Carol is survived by her children, Peter Smith (Lucy) of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, Caroline Alden Smith Yates, Atlantic Beach, Florida, and Steven Smith (Nancy), Melbourne, Florida, grandchildren Peter Smith (Karen), Allison Smith Tolksdorf (Oliver), Ben Smith (Michelle), Ted Smith (Jen), and Casey Alden Yates, as well as 9 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Arthur K. Smith, and her brother, Thomas Clarke.
Carol was born on July 18, 1919, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to Colonel Thomas Clarke and Caroline Alden Clarke. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1941 with a degree in Apparel Design.
Carol was an accomplished artist and excelled at creating beautiful watercolor paintings. She was an active member of St. Paul’s By the Sea Episcopal Church and was a lifelong member of the Order of the Daughters of the King.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2015, 2:00 pm, at St. Paul’s By The Sea. The Reverend Canon Penny Pfab will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carol’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Paul’s By The Sea, at 465 11th Avenue North, Jacksonville Beach, Florida 32250.
