On Thursday, July 22, 2021, Catherine "Cathy" Hendry Wrigley, loving mother, sister, and friend passed away after a lengthy illness, at the age of 74. Cathy was born on September 9, 1946 in Jacksonville, Fl to James and Martha Hendry. She graduated from Paxon High School in 1964, settling in Jacksonville to be a lifelong resident. Cathy was a born again Christian as a child and later as an adult reaffirming her faith. She raised two children, Mark and Gina, and loved them tremendously. Cathy retired from CSX Corporation after many years of dedicated service. She also was part owner of Moon Rose Boutique in St. Augustine, Fl with her best friend Paula Tuten Taylor for a number of years.
Cathy was a vivacious, outgoing woman with a personality that shone very bright. She was a great beauty with an enduring sense of humor, wit, and style. Growing up as the youngest daughter in the family, it seemed Cathy learned her sense of humor at home. Her mother always had a joke ready for anyone. Her dad loved to play jokes on his children, especially Cathy. While she was washing dishes after a family meal one afternoon, she looked out the kitchen window to see a menacing panty hose-covered face staring right back. After her giant scream the face turned out to be her dad, laughing loudly.
She had the gift of bringing fresh energy with her, wherever she went. In fact, her arrival at every family event was eagerly anticipated as she brought laughter, joy and life to all. It was said the party began when Cathy arrived. Her personality, charm, and character brought a lot of smiles to all and attracted many to her. She had a generous heart and was always willing to part with a few dollars for the homeless or needy. Dancing and traveling were two of her strongest passions; she especially enjoyed her extended trip to Switzerland. She also loved caring for all of the plants in her yard and reading the latest murder mystery novel.
In later life, she particularly loved to care for her granddaughter, Harper. Cathy is survived by her beloved son, Mark A. Richardson (Lisa), of Taylor, FL, who faithfully attended to her needs in later years; her granddaughter, Harper Cartrette; her estranged daughter, Gina Wrigley; her siblings, Carolyn Allan, of Spring Hill, FL; Connie Harrison, of Jacksonville, FL; Jim Hendry (Carole), of Wesley Chapel, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews. We wish to thank her sister Connie Harrison for her steady dedication and unwavering support in the care of Cathy for many years. Another special thank you to Park Ridge Nursing Center in Jacksonville, who treated Cathy like family. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
