Celestino (Charlie) Ortiz of Orange Park, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 7th at the age of 82. He was born on April 6th, 1937 in Aibonito, Puerto Rico and lived there until the family moved to the United States in early 1950's. He worked primarily in construction and within the school system. Charlie resided most of his life in New Jersey until moving to Florida in 2017 to be near his daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Charlie had a love of horse racing, dog racing and casino slot machines. He enjoyed watching football, going out for breakfast, eating seafood and taking naps. He had quite a way with people, making them smile and remember him by his humor and wit. He always had wisdom weaved into his silly jokes and stories. A one of a kind, very simple man who lived out life until the end in ways he always spoke of. He is preceded in death by his parents Raphael Ortiz and Aurora Santiago Ortiz. Survivors include his twelve siblings Maria Felicita (Walter, dec) Stefanski, Maria Margarita (Thomas, dec) Morris, Juan (Marjorie) Ortiz, Juanita (Keith, dec) Chandler, Raphael (Bonnie, dec) Ortiz Jr., Francisco (Shelia) Ortiz, Modesto (Kathleen) Ortiz, Edilberto Ortiz, Carmen Neida (Travis, dec) Strickland, Luis (Jeanie) Ortiz, Alfredo Ortiz, Aurora (Anthony) Calorel; daughters Naomi Archer (Kim), Susan Marie (Anthony) Stoltman; grandchildren Samantha Marie (Alejandro) Morales, Kayla Marie, Toni Marie (Daniel);
great- grandchildren Rosalie Grace, Rory Grant, Daniel Luke. Uncle Charlie has many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 7190 US-17, Fleming Island, FL 32003., following a church reception, the committal service will be 3:00 p.m. at Jacksonville Memory Gardens 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL 32073.
