Claude Herbert Robb, better known affectionately by all who knew him as Robb, was born March 9, 1947 to Claus and Margaret Robb of Jacksonville. He, along with his big sister Claudia, was a sixth-generation Floridian and loved the woods and natural settings of North Florida. From those earliest days, he was most at home in nature, and that
love of the outdoors stayed with him his whole life.

Robb graduated from the former Nathan Bedford Forrest High School and went on to college in St. Petersburg, Florida. He returned to his hometown and had a successful career selling insurance with New York Life Insurance Company. He was married twice, first to the former Deborah DeLoach and later to the former Barbara Blevins, both of Jacksonville. While he was not blessed with children, he more than made up for this by the loving role he played in the life of his niece, Elizabeth, and her three children.

He was gifted with "the spirit of adventure," and was always up for a good time with family and friends. He'd go anywhere and do pretty much anything as long as he was with people he loved, and there were many he counted as those he loved. He gathered friends wherever he went, and delighted in maintaining his friendships. Robb loved spending time at Black Hammock Island with friends and family, and enjoyed even the hard work of preserving that beautiful place. He was most at peace when in the great outdoors and close to nature.

He loved not only people but animals. He loved his bird dogs and always kept a full complement of six dogs at once. He researched their lineages and found, and of course became friends with, the best breeders in the country, and then trained them and devoted himself to their care. Time spent in the woods with his dogs, hunting quail and grouse and deer, not only here in Jacksonville but all over the country, was his life's greatest passion.

Robb brought his joy of life to all who knew him, and his fun-loving nature was infectious. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

Robb was preceded in death by his parents, Claus and Margaret Robb, of Jacksonville. He is survived by his sister, Claudia Ellis, of Jacksonville; his niece, Elizabeth Ellis, of Chevy Chase, Maryland; and her children Thomas Robb Mottur of Arlington, Virginia; Caroline Elizabeth Mottur of Hoboken, New Jersey; and Theodore Ogilvie Mottur of Chevy Chase, Maryland.
