Dale Edward Mills passed away on December 20, 2024, at Community Hospice at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida, due to complications from a stroke suffered on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024.

Born and raised in Hedrick, Iowa, Dale began a lifelong career with the railroad at the age of 18. Over the course of 44 years, he worked for M&STL, Chicago Northwestern, and Union Pacific railroads, serving in roles such as telegraph operator, freight clerk, and later as a METRA ticket agent. His dedication took him to 43 different stations before retiring in 1998. Following retirement, Dale and his beloved wife Alleyne relocated to Monmouth, Illinois, then Mission, Texas, and ultimately settled in Jacksonville, Florida.

 Dale was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Mills and Lucille Mills; his youngest daughter, Sue Ellen Mills; his older sister Mary; and his younger brother Don. He is survived by Alleyne, his devoted wife of 68 years; his daughter Sherry; his son Jim; four grandsons; two great grandsons and four great-granddaughters.

Known for his kindness and generosity, Dale had a gift for conversation and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He had a passion for collecting antiques and railroad memorabilia, reflecting his deep connection to the industry that shaped much of his life. Among his collections, Dale had an affinity for cowboy hats. He was rarely seen without wearing one.

 Dale’s warmth and generosity touched many lives. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

There will be no service at this time and the family asks for all to respect this.
