Darin Ray VanLandingham, age 58, passed away March 2, 2025, after a brave battle with cancer. Darin was born in Jacksonville October 27, 1966, attended Riverside Presbyterian Day School, The Bolles School, Robert E. Lee High School, and graduated from Florida State University in 1989.
Darin is survived by his wife of 33 years, Amy (Calhoun) VanLandingham and their children Abigail Frances and Alexander Weldon; his parents Ray and Linda VanLandingham, sister Karen (Bill) Norris; brother Mark (Sarah) VanLandingham; mother-in-law Marifrances Calhoun; sister-in-law Alyssa Hurst; nieces and nephews Trip Hurst, Hannah, Hayden and Hudson Norris, Bradley and Bentley VanLandingham, as well as other family and friends.
In his youth, Darin loved camping with Boy Scout Troop 2 and played organized football and baseball before turning his attention to water skiing with the Gatorland Water Ski Show Team. At FSU, Darin was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Some of his most treasured friendships began during this time and lasted throughout his life.
Darin was a playful soul with a quick wit and mischievous nature. He was rarely the loudest voice in the room but was frequently the most observant. He was an incredibly thoughtful and considerate individual whose actions towards people he loved demonstrated his depth of caring.
His "A Team" was the joy of Darin's life. He was a faithful and encouraging presence at dance recitals, church performances and baseball games. Two of his lifelong passions were music and fishing. He loved sitting beside Abby as she sang and played the piano or guitar. He taught Alex to fish and relished their outings on the water, especially the St. Augustine inlet. As empty nesters, he and Amy loved cooking together, working in the yard, playing with the dogs and traveling to visit the children in Orlando and NYC.
Darin spent most of his career with Merrill Lynch/Bank of America, winning numerous Chairman's Club and Circle of Excellence awards during the time the family lived in Kansas City and Indianapolis. Later in his career in Atlanta, he enjoyed a more philanthropic role, frequently volunteering in elementary schools, teaching financial literacy to teenagers and young adults, mentoring new hire associates and participating in the bank's local Habitat for Humanity builds.
A memorial service will be held at Ortega United Methodist Church, Darin's childhood church, Saturday, March 22 at 11am. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32257.
