David Grant Cash, Jr., 56, of Jacksonville, FL passed away unexpectedly on July 11,
2024, due to an acute cardiovascular event. David was born on September 1, 1967, to
David and Brenda Cash, in Lexington Park, MD at Naval Air Station Patuxent River. He
grew up in Rock Hill, SC where much of his immediate and extended family lived. He
attended Northwestern High School in Rock Hill and went to college at GMI Engineering
& Management Institute in Flint, MI and the University of South Carolina Lancaster.
In 2000, David relocated to Jacksonville, FL for his job. During that same time, he met
his future husband, Jeffrey Wright. They shared their lives with their amazing and
loveable dogs and cats over the years, who were always a central focus of their home
life. David's intelligence, wit, and generosity touched many lives, and he had many
friends who adored him. Some of his occupations throughout the years included
working as a geographic information systems specialist, and most recently working for a
well-respected ophthalmology group.
David and Jeff equally enjoyed staying home with their pets, and traveling to places like Brazil, New York City, and of course back home to Rock Hill to visit family and friends.
He and Jeff were members of the Ortega River Club in Jacksonville, and David played a
role in the club's leadership team as the club secretary. In December 2017, after 17
years together, David and Jeff married in a small ceremony with a few close friends and
family. David also had a talent and passion for orchids, and he had a beautiful collection
that he cared for over the years.
David is preceded in death by his grandparents from all sides of his family, and his
stepmother Anne Cash.
He is survived by his devoted husband Jeffrey Wright and their two dogs Beau and
Bentley and cat Theo, mother & stepfather Brenda Lane Weiler and Gary Weiler of
Jacksonville, FL, father David G. Cash, Sr. of Rock Hill, SC, sister April Varnadore of
Rock Hill, SC, sister Wendy (Mike) Caudill of St Helena Island, SC, brother Ray
Brookins of Burley, ID, brother Michael (Crystal) Weiler of Lambertville, MI, niece Misty
(Christopher) Hunter of Jacksonville, FL, and countless other extended family members.
A celebration of David's life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please
consider a donation in David's memory to the Jacksonville Humane Society.
