Don Brodbeck, 68, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully at 11:20 Sunday morning 3/1/2020 at the Community Hospice Center, St. Vincent's Riverside.
Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend was born December 19, 1951, in Cape May Court House, NJ. He grew up in the Cape May area, spending some of his teenage years in Florida. He lived in Franklinville, NJ for many years while raising a family, who ultimately relocated to the Jacksonville, FL area in 1998.
He was a hardworking man, working in several fields over the years. From his early days at a Wildwood, NJ bakery, deckhand on a clam boat, Snow's Cannery where he met his wife Marie, to Owens-Corning Fiberglass in Barrington, NJ, and eventually becoming a full-time electrician in the 1980's. Upon settling in the Jacksonville area, he worked for DeBerry Electric for 19 years, before retiring in 2017.
He loved being out in nature, animals of all kinds, listening to music, studying herpetology, and enjoyed hobbies such as model railroading and reading. He will be remembered fondly whenever a Willie Nelson or Savoy Brown song is played, a cheesy sci-fi or classic horror movie comes on, when a train passes, or when simply enjoying a beer out in the backyard.
Preceded in death by parents Frederick and Emily Brodbeck, sister Carol (Jim) Clark and nephew Billy Markley.
He will be missed by many. He is survived by the love of his life, wife of 42 years, Marie Brodbeck, son Charles (Katie) Brodbeck, daughter Elizabeth (Sam) McLaughlin, his 3 grandchildren Gage, Layla and Lucas, and his canine daughter Ginger. Siblings Wayne (Judy) Brodbeck, Shirley (Johnnie-deceased) Markley, Beverly (Jimmy-deceased) Anderson and many nieces, nephews and friends share in this loss.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Jacksonville Herpetological Society

Details for a celebration of life will be shared with friends and family at a later date.
