Donald Hayes McDaniel, 75 years old, was born in Jacksonville, Florida on July 17,
1948, to Jackson Hayes McDaniel and Louise Jones McDaniel. He was lovingly
known by all as Butch his entire life. Butch was raised in Jacksonville by his
mother Louise and his grandparents, Charlie and Bessie Jones. His little sister,
Susan Davis was born in 1959. Butch graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in
1966 and attended college classes at Florida Junior College. He played the
Baritone Horn in the Marching Band in high school and played football and
baseball.
Butch was a sports enthusiast. He continued to play baseball on local teams. He
was an accomplished bowler, bowling three leagues per week for many years. He
also enjoyed golf. He was an avid football fan supporting his favorite teams, the
Florida Gators and the Jacksonville Jaguars and enjoyed watching many sports
such as golf, tennis, wrestling and others.
Butch met his wife, Carol Jeanne West McDaniel in 1978 while on a bowling
league. They eventually married on July 2, 1994. They made their home on the
westside of Jacksonville. They welcomed their daughter, Emily Diane McDaniel,
on November 12, 2000. Their family was complete.
Butch worked as a courier for Priority Couriers and eventually became a
dispatcher for the company. He left their employment in 2010 and subsequently
retired.
Butch is survived by his wife, Jeanne McDaniel, daughter Emily McDaniel
(Gainesville, FL), sister, Susan Davis Yeomans (Tennessee), Sisters-in-law, Karen
Cody and Janice West, 4 nieces, 6 nephews, 8 great nieces and 5 great nephews.
Butch loved his many extended family members and was actively engaged with
them all. He will surely be missed!
A celebration of life will be held for Butch on Saturday July 6, 2024, 2:30 p.m. at
Naugle Funeral Home located at 1203 Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, Fl 32207. En
lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Butch's honor to the American Heart
Association.
