Dorla J. Jordan (83) passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 11, 2014 at Cypress Village’s Skilled Nursing Unit. She was born in Elkhart, Indiana and moved with her family to Jacksonville, Florida when she was a child.
She attended Landon High School, Massey Business College, Florida Junior College, etc. She earned a Certificate of Proficiency (Accounting) as well as Certificates of Achievement in Pen Bookkeeping, Bookkeeping Machine and General Clerical. Additionally, she received a Certified Dental Assistant certificate by the ADAA. Her first job was working at Morrison’s Cafeteria then on to The Prudential. Some other employers were: Drs. Mann & Holton (oral surgeons), Champion Developers; Hotel George, Houdaille-Duval & Wright, City of Jacksonville and the HRS Laboratory before retiring. Among her greatest accomplishments, she conquered Polio.
She was married to Willie A. Pierce with whom they had one daughter (Constance J .[Pierce] Lowery) as well as Henry H. Jordan with whom they had one son (Henry T. Jordan). She was a devoted mother and daughter and worked tirelessly to provide for her family.
She enjoyed all kinds of music, had a soft spot for animals, loved walking on the beach and liked watching football. Through her trust and faith in God, her life is a testament to His unfailing love and grace. We celebrate her reward!
She is preceded in death by her father and mother (Furnie C. Price and Violet J. Price), sister (Mary E. Burck) and two brothers (Robert E. Price and Grover E. Price). Survivors include daughter Connie (Mike) Lowery and son Tim Jordan (longtime companion Julie Barton); grandchildren Tim Jordan, Chris Jordan, Jennifer Jordan and Jessica Jordan; six great grandchildren as well as nephews, nieces and their children.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 29 at Greenlawn Cemetery on Beach Boulevard. After the service, a gathering of friends and family will be held at 13994 Canopy Overlook Ct. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dorla Jordan to the Jacksonville Humane Society, Northeast Florida Community Hospice or charity of choice.
