Dorothy "Dotty" B. Hess, 77, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Nashville, TN, on September 7, 1946 to Joe M. and Mildred Bentley. She graduated from Landon High School in 1964, and attended Southeastern Christian College in Winchester, KY, where she met the love of her life William B. Hess. They were married in 1966.
She was a beloved wife, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and teacher. She taught school for over 30 years, most recently at Cedar Hills Baptist Christian School. She previously taught at DePaul School, Arlington Church of God Kindergarten, and Southside Church of Christ daycare.
Her passion was God, family, and her students. She was always looking for ways to teach others about God and spent countless hours making sure her students had everything they needed to succeed in their lives.
In addition to teaching, she loved sewing, cooking, and gardening. As a seamstress, she enjoyed a variety of projects such as creating baby blankets, designing clothes, or altering wedding dresses. As a cook, she got as much pleasure from studying cookbooks as she did cooking for her family. As a gardener, she lovingly cared for her roses, and even told her children to take good care of them when she passed away.
Dotty is preceded in death by her parents, Joe Mitchener Bentley and Mildred (Browder) Bentley, and her husband William B.
