Earl Donald Carlson Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on November 6, 2021 at the age of 81. He was a loving husband and father and a great friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed.
Earl was born in Rocky Mount, NC on May 29, 1940. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville and then went on to work for the railroad as a railroad electrician. After leaving the railroad he owned his own home remodeling business up until his retirement. There was almost nothing he could not build, fix or figure out how to do.
He was a man of many interests and talents. He had a love for nature and God's creatures and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a long-time member of the Jacksonville Herpetological �Society. He enjoyed all types of hunting, including hunting and trapping alligators. He was a craftsman who learned to make jewelry and knives. He became very good at both. He crafted many unique custom knives using all sorts of different materials to forge the blades, craft the handles, and make the sheaths. He took great joy in gifting his handmade creations to others.
He is survived by his loving wife Joanne, his sons Don (Margaret) and Carl, his grandson Ryan, his brother Gary, many other family including nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who dearly loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife Brenda and his parents Earl Donald Carlson Sr. and Evelyn Eleanor Carlson.
Earl was a member of Riverside Park United Methodist Church. A service to celebrate his life will be held on November 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM, at the church, 819 Park St, Jacksonville, FL 32204. Visitation will start prior to the service at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205 at 1:00 PM.
