Edgar M Holtsinger, 99 years young, passed away September 1, 2021. Born at home in Tampa, Florida on June 2, 1922, Ed was the son of the late Anna Louise and Edgar Meek Holtsinger. His adolescent years were spent at Pablo Beach where he attended Jacksonville Beach Grammar School and was in the first graduating class at Duncan U Fletcher Senior High in 1942. Ed served in the both the U.S. Coast Guard and the United States Navy. He attended Georgia Teach earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He played football at Georgia Tech under Coach Bobby Dodd. Coach Dodd converted Ed from center to quarterback because of his size and athleticism. Ed held the longest completed pass record for years with his 79-yard touchdown pass in the Tech verses Auburn game in 1945. The legendary Coach Lambeau of the Green Bay Packers drafted Ed to join the Packers in 1946. Ed being a Florida native decided to decline Lambeau's offer and returned to his high school Alma Mater, Duncan U Fletcher and taught math and coached the swimming and football teams.
In June 1946, Ed married Lorraine Stalnaker Holtsinger, and they made Jacksonville Beach their residence. Ed met his lifetime friend while teaching at Fletcher and Mr. Herb Peyton and Ed remained very close friends.
Ed was employed by General Electric from 1949 to 1967. Ed joined Jacksonville Electric Authority in 1967 and enjoyed an eight-year career as Community Relations Manager. Ed's dreamed of owning his own electrical contracting company and Holtsinger Electric Company became a reality in October 1974.
Ed's love for Mandarin and his community drove him to run for District 4 City Council. The lone republican Councilman from 1983 to 1987, Ed referred to himself as the 18-1 Councilman. Ed later years were spent managing his cattle farm, harvesting vegetables, mowing the hay fields, shrimping with his hand made cast nets, raising dairy replacement calves for Meadowbrook Dairy, and piddling at daily tasks.
Ed was preceded in death by his former wife, Lorraine S. Holtsinger, and his brothers Wallace F Holtsinger and Stanley M. Holtsinger and lifetime friend Arthur Chester Skinner. Florence Jean Casselberry and Maddie his two faithful and loving canines also preceded Ed in death.

Ed's leaves a 99-year legacy for his friends and family. Ed's surviving family include children Mike Holtsinger (Lynda), Marge Holtsinger, Missy Jennings (Ron) and Melanie Hoffman (Don); grandchildren, Griffin Holtsinger, Aaron Donnelly, Adrienne Calhoun, Catie Elrod, David Elrod, Michael Sullivan (Kelly), Chris Sullivan (Jennifer), Melody Ann Al-Kahlout (Mo), Bubba Hoffman (Emily) and Henry Hoffman; and great grandchildren, Emma Sullivan, Christopher Sullivan, Cody Sullivan, and Kristin Al-Kahlout. Ed's loyal, faithful, and loving sister, Mrs. Ann West will continue to carry the Holtsinger legacy.
A celebration of Ed's life will be held October 23, 2021, at Naugle Funeral Home, 1203 Hendricks Avenue at 3 p.m. Friends and family will be received at 2 p.m.
