EDWIN THOMAS HEARN
Avid golfer and lovable curmudgeon, Sergeant Edwin T. Hearn, 71, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, completed his final round of golf and hung up his clubs on October 15, 2019.
Ed's life was one of looking out for the little guy. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Ed was a career Philadelphia police officer, often racing toward assignments others would shy away from. He protected everyone from sweet little old ladies to the fabulous members of the city's LGBTQ community, treating all with respect and dignity. After retiring from the force, Ed had an encore career as an emergency nurse where his compassion carried on. His fearlessness and unflappable style were a favorite of his colleagues, but not so much for some of his more "savory" patients.
Ed was preceded to the clubhouse by his loving parents, Edwin and Margaret Hearn and his brother, William. He is survived by his loving wife and nurse educator Linda; early childhood educator and daughter Stephanie (Tom); Philadelphia Firefighter Edwin (Melissa); U.S. Navy veteran and law enforcement official Ryan; and, U.S. Coast Guard veteran Christopher. Ed is also survived by five amazing grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one great-grandchild on the way, and two daughters from a previous marriage.
Ed's immediate family wished him a safe journey in a private oceanside service. A memorial will be held November 9, 2019 from 2PM-8PM in Chalfont, PA. For details, please email:
