Edwin Larkin Kirby, 54, of Jacksonville, passed away on Wednesday, June 14 surrounded by his loved ones. Ed was the youngest of three children born in Baltimore, MD to Philip and Jennie (Batten) Kirby. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna Mathis. Ed is survived by his wife, Kristi Houlberg; son, Phillip Alan Kirby; daughter, Erin Elizabeth Kirby and sister, Cathy Catino (Greg). Ed retired from the US Navy after 21 years of dedicated service as a flight engineer but continued to follow his passion for teaching as a civilian contractor at NAS JAX. Ed enjoyed travel, live music of every genre, exploring new restaurants and driving down the road in his RV with beloved wife, toy poodle and yellow lab by his side. Ed was a loyal friend, believed in doing what was right rather than what was easy and took great pride in the amazing adults his children grew to be. He was never happier than sitting on his front porch with a good cigar in one hand and fine single malt in the other. He loved fully and was loved by many. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 16 at 2pm at Naugle Funeral Home, 1203 Hendricks Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida or Moffitt Cancer Center.
