Eleanor Jane Fraley ("Janie" or "Jeni", as so renamed by her only grandson Grant), departed this earthly life on Friday, February 3, 2023 after complications associated with advanced dementia. She was 81 years old and was residing in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
Janie was the daughter of the late Malcolm Ernest Summers and Anna Gale (Meuser) Summers and raised in Evansville, IN. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Guy Fraley, her daughter, Joy Fulton, and her grandson, Grant Fulton all of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, as well as her younger sister Marilyn Summers of Evansville, IN and some extended family residing in Indiana, Nevada, and California.
Janie was offered a full academic college scholarship upon graduation from high school, but her parents thwarted her plans. She channeled her academic determination into the fierce mastery of operating a switchboard and leading the pack in shorthand as she embarked upon a career as an Executive Secretary that traversed industrial companies to banking. From here she helped her husband operate his entrepreneurial endeavors ranging from car lots to gas stations to insurance agencies and never missed an opportunity to volunteer for a field trip or work in various capacities at her daughter's schools in Henderson, KY.
Upon Janie and Guy moving to Florida to be closer to their only daughter, once she started down her collegiate path, Janie fell in love with being a real estate agent. She was extremely successful in this pursuit, as she had the patience of a saint to show folks multiple properties over many months and years. She would never leave their sides as they made their residential buying decisions.
For those close to Janie, you experienced her unconditional love, infectious laugh, and contagious smile. Those are the key traits the outside world will remember her for, but they are only the tip of the iceberg. As her daughter, she took unconditional love to a whole other level. She raised me under one simple principle: "If you rob a bank, I will drive the getaway car."
Upon her falling ill in these past weeks, my son, Grant, now 12 years old, echoed these words to me by asking the sweet question that if Jeni was going to be buried, what was to be placed on her tombstone? You see he did not want Rest in Peace to be the words associated with her remembrance. He wanted the world to know that she too loved him with the same unconditional love stemming from this principle. She would repeatedly tell him these same words and he wants everyone to know.
With that, we are having a memorial plaque made with this inscription to share with those who may be able to attend her celebration of life to be held later this year in Edgewater, FL. As a woman of faith, Janie wished to have a celebration of the immortality promised to all by Christ. She would love to be remembered with funny, strange, or silly stories that celebrate what was good and blessed in her life.
In honor of Janie, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to Jacksonville BMX. Grant is a fierce and ranked competitor and she took great joy in watching him compete. Making an impact to his local BMX track solidifies her presence with her grandson in the sport that he loves.
