She was born on September 30, 1927, in Gaffney, South Carolina, to John Leslie and Dell Montgomery McCulloch. She married the late David W. Peace in 1947 and settled in Anderson, South Carolina, where they raised their two sons. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Jennifer Peace, of Jacksonville and her grandson and his wife, Christopher and Laurie Peace, of Argyle, Texas. Elizabeth has one great-granddaughter, Stephanie Peace, of Argyle, Texas.
Elizabeth was very active in veteran affairs. Her husband's experiences as a survivor of the Bataan Death March as a prisoner of war in World War II and the effects that it had on his health throughout his life inspired Elizabeth to be an advocate of Anderson County veterans seeking Veterans Administration disability benefits. She also organized patriotic celebrations in Anderson, including the 50th and 60th commemoration ceremonies of the end of World War II. Elizabeth was recognized on several occasions by Anderson County Council for her volunteer services to veterans and her patriotic projects.
Elizabeth was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson and the Dorcas Sunday School Class, the Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor Auxiliary. She was past president of the Disabled American Veterans Post #40; past president of American Legion Auxiliary #14; and the founder and president of the Anderson Widow and Widower Chapter, which provided information on a wide range of subjects to persons having lost a spouse.
Elizabeth's funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, at the Sullivan-King Mortuary in Anderson. The family will receive friends at Sullivan-King one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Forest Lawn Cemetery.
