Gail Buttress Cooper peacefully passed away on June 22, 2022 with family at her side. Gail was born in Los Angeles California on September 1, 1933 to Albertha Weeks Buttress and Jefferson Buttress. She attended school in Honolulu, Hawaii and Dade City, Florida. She was a proud graduate of Florida State University in 1955 with a degree in elementary education. She taught school in Miami, France, Birmingham Alabama and for 20 years, in Duval County, Jacksonville. She was a passionate schoolteacher, adored by her students and when casually running into her grown up 5th graders, they would stop her and thank her for the great experiences they had in her classroom.
After retiring from teaching, Gail poured her energies into breeding and training dogs. She was President of the Greater Orange Park Dog Club and Sunshine Belgian Tervuren Club in Florida. She was one of the top breeders of the Belgian Tervuren, listed in the Tervuren history books. She was one of the original founders of Head Start Puppy Class. She and her dearly beloved husband Bill travelled the USA in their RV going to dog shows and meeting up with old and new friends. They enjoyed summers in their mountain cabin in North Carolina, where many good memories were made with family and friends.
Gail is predeceased by her husband Bill Cooper and stepson Tony Cooper. She is survived by her daughter Pam, son Russ and stepdaughter Sharon, grandchildren Wendy, Megan, Hannah and Trevor and great-grandchildren Nolan and Aylin.
