Gary S. Gray, lifelong Jacksonville resident/insurance executive, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 4th at the age of 65. Gary was a 1966 Wolfson class member and graduated from Florida State University in 1972. Gary served in the Marine Corp Reserves before starting a lifelong insurance career where he first began as an Underwriter at Prudential. In 1979, he started Gray and Gray Insurance and after leaving there he became President/Owner of Gray, Smith and Commander. In 2001 he joined IOA, where he was a Partner, Sr. V.P. and previous member of the Board of Directors. Gary never met a stranger. Given any opportunity, he would speak to any and every one non-stop about his two passions, politics and FSU. He was a kind and compassionate person, who formed lasting friendships throughout his life-time. Gary is survived by his loving wife Deborah Waters. Gary and Deby celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary on January 24th. They enjoyed trips in their RV and FSU football. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Mable Lee Gray; sister, Mary Christine; and brother, Anthony Jr. Surviving family members are daughter, Wyndee Leigh Gray; brother, Grover Gray (Suzette); sister, Mable Lee Quina (Peyton); Deby's two daughters and three grandchildren who loved their "Grumpy". Memorial Service will be held at San Jose Episcopal Church, Sunday, February 9th at 3:30pm. After the memorial service a reception will be held at Naugle Funeral Home, 1203 Hendricks Avenue.
