Gary Eugene Strickland
June 4, 1950 — January 19, 2019
Gary Eugene Strickland of Weldon NC, born in Roanoke Rapids NC on June 4, 1950, passed away January 19 2019 in his sleep at Orange Park Medical Center, Orange Park Florida. His health had been declining over the last 3 years, requiring weekly dialysis and frequent hospitalizations. Renal Failure & Congestive Heart Failure contributed to his passing.
Gary attended Weldon High School and graduated Weldon High Class of 1968. He attended ECU 1968 - 1969. He joined the US Navy becoming a Navy Corpsman then with further training becoming an Operating Room Technician. After his honorable discharge he joined the US Air Force Reserves and flew Med Evacs out of VietNam. After completing his years in the Reserve he joined Charleston County EMS, Charleston SC graduating aS a Paramedic with honors. Gary worked in Healthcare until his disability in 2006.
Gary is survived by his wife of 43 years, Teresa L Strickland formerly of Charlotte NC, now in Jacksonville FL. Also his 3 nieces, Jennifer S Finnegan of Manteo NC,
Ashley F Kirk of Greenville NC and Samantha D. Finnegan of Smithfield NC. He is also survived by several cousins.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Lester Gordon and Eleanor Sullivan Strickland, his brother Stephen Lester Strickland & his sister Susan Strickland Rose.
Honey, although you are no longer at my side, I feel you in my heart and see your smiling face around me. I miss you more than words can express and I will love you forever and ever. I know you are watching over me and I know I will see you again one day.
