Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, doctor and friend, Dr. George Sedding Trotter of Jacksonville, went to his heavenly home on the morning of April 20, 2024, at the age of 91. George, a native of Jacksonville, attended St. Paul's Church and School and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida. He attended the University of Maryland Medical School where he met the love of his life, Ann. They were married just two days after his graduation! After a short honeymoon, they returned to Jacksonville to begin their family and his internship and residency at St. Vincent's Hospital.
Dr. George Trotter had a private general medicine practice for 61 years with a special interest in Hematology. He treated every patient like family and never refused a house call. To say that he was a loving, faithful, devoted, compassionate, and giving person only skims the surface of the man George. He contributed his time, talents, and treasure throughout the Jacksonville community.
George's medical accolades include: president - Duval County Medical Society; founder & past chairman - We Care Jacksonville; past chairman and board member - Northeast Florida Aids Network; Active participation in Hematology Medical Oncology Clinic, Shands; Clinical Associate professor of medicine University of Florida; president - Leukemia Society of America; board of directors - American Cancer Society; member American Society of Hematology, Florida Society of Clinical Oncology, American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, Indigent Care Oversight Committee, Area Health Education Committee.
George's community accolades include: president, CEO, board member, solicitation committee Community Nutcracker, Inc.; founder Doctor's Talent Show; past solicitation chairman First Coast Nutcracker, Inc.; chairman of the board Jacksonville Concert Ballet Company; Symphony Association member. Always a sharply dressed man, George was up for anything, with more energy than anyone. He had a plethora of interests including: tennis, dance {known for his role as Herr Drosselmeyer), Gator football, his Catholic faith, ADVENTURE (camping, backpacking, mountain biking, canoeing/rafting), world travel, photography, and poker, to name a few. George could be quite a rascal, but he was a loveable rascal who captured the heart of everyone he met! If he were writing this, he would sign off as he often did with the words: "Be a good American and God Bless!"
George will be greatly missed by his wife, Ann; his children: George, Kathleen (Eduardo), Susan (Michael), John (Kris), Mary Ann (Doug); his grandchildren: John Edward, Joseph, Megan, Sean, Mark, George, Thomas, Emily, Ryan; his surviving siblings: James and May; and his many dear friends and patients.
The family will receive visitors Wednesday, April 24, from 6-8pm at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. (1773 Blanding Blvd, Jacksonville, Fl 32210). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Thursday, April 25th at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery (4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, Florida 32207).
