Gerard Cambronne

April 26, 1930 — December 15, 2024

Jacksonville, Florida

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gerard Cambronne, at home surrounded by friends and families. He left us early in the morning on December 15, 2024, at 94 years old. Our father was always there when we needed him the most. Dad was born in Jeremie, Haiti on April 26, 1930. His father, Prospere Cambronne, was not active in his life and his mother, Celestine Lundi, struggled to raise him.

Dad was a great man, a man with integrity. Kindness, generosity, and humor. He always left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Everybody knew Dad as Brother Gerard or Brother Cambronne. He was a man with a strong character who dedicated his life to God and the well-being of his family and friends. Dad was honest, reliable, a good husband, an extraordinary father and Grandfather, an unconditional friend, and a tireless servant of God. He was a hard worker and regardless of the weather challenges, cold, snow, or heat, Dad was always up and ready to do what was necessary for his family.

Life was hard in Haiti and Dad felt like he had no choice, but to leave his home country and search for better opportunities elsewhere for us. Dad was forty years old when he migrated from Haiti to Belgium. He worked there for ten years and later moved to the USA. The land of opportunity was the perfect match for him as he fulfilled his dream of providing a better future for his family. Due to his work ethic and discipline, Dad was tough on us. As children, we felt he was too hard on us, but now understand and appreciate the values he instilled in us. The oldest of us was 15 when Dad decided to leave Haiti to give us a better future. For most families, that would have been a recipe for failure, but our foundation was so strong that we all followed the right pathway to success. Nobody fell to the temptation to smoke, drink, or follow the wrong crowd. Without our dad none of us would be where we are today. We are so proud of him; he will remain in our hearts forever. Dad enjoyed reading his bible, praying with others, spending time with family, and watching soccer. We are all going to miss him dearly.

Our dad survived by his wife of 22 years, Genelia Nelson; his sons, Genousse Cambronne, Jean Claude Cambronne, and Terry Cambronne; his daughters, Martha Cambronne Noel and Nicole Cambronne Thompson; his grandchildren, Stephen Thompson, James Cambronne, Kevin Cambronne, Maygam Cambronne Halloway, Hannah Cambronne, Melissa Cambronne Title, Nelly Shanika Cambronne, Suzelie Dume, Sophora Petion, Mootina Petion, Saintcyr, Jessica Petion Cherisier, Yony Poulard, and Shekina Poulard; his great-grandchildren, Adrianna Title, Aiden Thompson, Asaiah Title, Ava Thompson, Sharel L. Destouches, Mark Clarens Destouches, and Rose Ether Pierre; sons-in-laws, Richard Thompson and Mark Noel; daughter-in-laws, Bernadette Paul Cambronne, Noelzina Jean Cambronne, and Lucia Torres Cambronne.
