Mrs. Gladys Chavis Jones, age 81, of St. Augustine, FL was called home on 8 January 2018.
Gladys D. Chavis was born in Ahoskie, NC on 15 May 1936, the 2nd youngest of seven children to Claudia and Clarence Chavis. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Phyllis "PJ" Denene Jones and siblings, Elouise Weaver, Margaret Benton, Clarence Chavis, Norfleet Chavis, and Christine Berry. Gladys graduated from North Carolina College and was employed by Montgomery County Public Schools in Silver Spring, MD before retiring and relocating to St. Augustine, FL. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Samuel Jones; children, Aubre Jones (Karen) of Ashburn, VA, PJ's spouse, Edward "Ted" Porter of Hyattsville, MD, Michael Jones (Karla) of Urbana, MD, Terri Foster (Jonathan) of Ashburn, VA, and Ashley Jones (Mary) of Boca Raton, FL; grandchildren, Phoenix, Reilly, Noah, Luisa (and daughter, Ella), Will, Dylan, Dania, Wanda, Marcela, Brandon, Tyler, Joshua (Jesika), Jorden, Jaime, Samuel, Kaley, Kelly, Alanna, Addison and Samantha; sibling, Earle Ward and numerous nieces and nephews in which she shared a very special bond.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00p.m. on Saturday 20 January 2018 at St. Francis In-The-Field Church, 895 Palm Valley Rd, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32081 < https://maps.google.com/?q=895 Palm Valley Rd, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32081&entry=gmail&source=g>. Reception to follow memorial service in the Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choosing.
