Henry Hartzell Smith Sr. went to be with his Lord on January 27, 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Hart, as he was affectionately known, was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina on October 10, 1926 to Percy Harrison Smith and Annie Jane Lea.
Hart was raised in North Carolina and served in the Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He began his career with CSX predecessor Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, transferring to Jacksonville in 1960. He enjoyed a lengthy career with CSX until his retirement.
He is survived by his beloved wife Margaret (Polly) Shelley Smith, with whom he celebrated 73 years of marriage on April 28, 2023.
Hart is also survived by his four loving children, Mike Smith (Gloria), Jody Smith (MaryMike), Sherrie Ralph (Jim) and Henry Hartzell Smith Jr. (Stephanie). Hart and Polly were blessed with ten grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
His passion was farming his acreage and sharing his bounty with family and friends. He was always quick with a smile and ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Funeral services will be February 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Switzerland Community Church - 2179 State Road 13 N, Jacksonville, Florida 32259. The family will be receiving guests from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. and invite guests to a reception immediately following the service at the church.
