With her entire family standing hand-in-hand in prayer at her side, Iris Kathleen Castleman (79) passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 27, 2015 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for all eternity. Iris was a devoted wife for 59 years to her husband, Lewis E. Castleman. She was a loving, caring, and nurturing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her nine children – Karen Milton, Jennifer Webb, Keith Castleman, Shelia Renée Castleman, Mike Castleman, Rebecca McCormick, David Castleman, Esther Hodge, and John Castleman – her 22 grandchildren – Andrew, Kayla Nicole, Andrea, David Jr., Benjamin, Kayla Lynne, Bret, Christopher, Kara, Tyler, Kristen, Rachel, Grace, Spencer, Jones, Riley, Lance, Luke, Karlee Grace, Kenadee Hope, Ellyana, and Chase – and her four great-grandchildren – Alyssa, Harley, Christian, and Caitlyn. Iris was born on September 15, 1935 in Jacksonville, FL the youngest of two daughters to Malcolm C. and Irma L. Crews. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1953 and later married Lewis E. Castleman on August 11, 1956 at Avondale United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Iris had a loving heart and enjoyed doing for others – She worked closely with special needs children for over 17 years with the Duval County School Board. There is no question that Iris’ legacy is her family. They truly defined her life’s work and she loved them all individually with every fiber of her being. She gave of herself unselfishly and she loved unselfishly until the very end. Above all, she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an incredible woman of strength, faith and belief that we should fix our eyes, not on what is seen, but on what is unseen and where we shall have eternal life everlasting in the presence of God the Father.
