James Dixon passed away peacefully Friday, April 1. He was born in Baxley, GA. Raised on a farm byhis Aunt & Uncle. Jim left the farm as a young man and joined the Air Force. Served during the Korean War as a telecommunications specialist. After leaving the Air Force with an honorable discharge. Jim met his lovelywife to be Evelyn Wetherington of Savannah, GA. They were married in 1957. Moved to Florida an started a new life and family. Jim worked hard for many years. On Sunday's after church he would cook for the family his favorite was fried chicken. He dreamed of running a restaurant one day. In the 70's he finally made a dream come true. Jim was the founder of "Jim's Fried Chicken & Fish" located in the San Marco area. Jim and Evelyn owned and operated this business for 30 yrs. Jim is locally known for his famous fried chicken!
Jim & Evelyn retired started enjoying family, home, gardening and some traveling. Jim was a dedicated husband for 43 yrs and a full time caregiver to Evelyn when she became ill and passed. Jim has spent the last 16 yrs. of his life with his children and friends enjoying every moment he could. The last 5 yrs became his biggest challenge with an onset of dementia his life was changed and as time passed the lord chose to call him home.
Jim is pre-deceased by his parents Pat & Maude Dixon. Wife Evelyn and son Mark. Jim is survived by his daughters Marsane Edgerton and Marcelle Dixon; daughter-in-law Sharon Dixon; Grandchildren Mark Dixon Jr (Liz) Matt Dixon (Alexi); Great grandchildren Alana, Jaden, Liam, Nevaeh.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery 4300 Beach Blvd Jacksonville, FL at 11:00am on Saturday, April 16. with Reception following Arrangements by Naugle Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1203 Hendricks Ave. (904) 396-1611
