James (Jim) Hicks was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey 0n 09/28/49 and passed away peacefully in his home in Jacksonville, FL on February 2, 2023. Jim was raised in Jacksonville, FL, graduated from Georgia Tech in the early 1970's with a degree in engineering and then went on to serve 3 years in the Navy in Pensacola, FL. Jim had a successful career in the shipping industry stretching from Jacksonville to Savannah to Charleston and made many lifelong fishing and boating "brothers" throughout his career. Jim would travel frequently to North Carolina for many of the King Mackerel Fishing tournaments in Morehead City, Wrightsville Beach, Southport, NC. Jim's boat 'El Pescadero took 2nd place in the U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament in Southport, NC with a 39 lb fish winning over $20,000. Jim had a wonderful sense of humor and was very witty, was very smart/perceptive/could read others well and generally was a joy to have around. Jim's life can be summed up by 2 quotes from two of his closest friends who said, "he was truly
a great friend. He was always by my side when I needed him" and ". Jim was like a brother to me. That's the only way I can capture our relationship. We had each other's backs and simply knew that nothing could break that bond. I am grateful for the time that we had together. It was my privilege to have had such a dear friend. Jim is predeceased by his parents, Douglas and Edith Hicks.
