J. Mitchell Medford, aged 81, passed away on July 19, 2024. Born on September 23, 1942, Mitchell was married to the love of his life, Joyce Medford, for 57 wonderful years.
Mitchell is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce; his son, Anthony Medford; his daughters, MiChelle Ridgeway and Jennifer Celani; his daughter-in-law, Robin Vinson; and his sons-in-law, Brian Ridgeway and Gary Celani. Mitchell was a proud grandfather to Anika, Declan, and Eoin Ridgeway. He also leaves behind beloved nephews and nieces.
Mitchell is preceded in death by his parents, James and Virginia Medford; his sisters, Virginia Grimes and Linda Woodcock; and his nephew, Robbie Simmons.
Mitchell was a US Army Veteran who served his country honorably. Known for his kindness and thoughtful nature, Mitchell was always quick with humor and had a smile that lit up the room. As a lifelong reader and writer, Mitchell was a published author who cherished his family above all else. With an insatiable thirst for knowledge, he was an avid trivia buff who loved watching and playing Jeopardy. His passions included writing, sailing, horseback riding, and music. As a follower of Christ, he lived a life of faith and love.
A memorial service will be held at Naugle Funeral Home, 1203 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32207, on Friday, July 26, 2024. Viewing will begin at 9:30 AM, with the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by burial at 12:30 PM at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218.
The loss of Mitchell is a great sorrow. He is deeply loved by his family and everyone who had the pleasure to know him. He will be forever missed.
