Jane Hixson Vogt
October 19, 1947 — May 9, 2020
Jane Hixson Vogt never met a stranger. She was so friendly, fun and outgoing. Jane Elizabeth Hixson Vogt passed into the arms of Jesus on May 9, 2020 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on October 19, 1947 to the late John B. Hixson and Jess Carter Hixson in Chattanooga, TN.
Jane was passionate about pets and was manager of a pet store in Atlanta. She brought home all the sick ones and nursed the babies back to health. Many of the cats she kept and loved them so much. She also worked at Handleman's in sales while living in Dothan, Alabama prior to her new position in Atlanta.
Finally she came back to Jacksonville and her sister Julia was thrilled to have her here. Jane helped to open the Dillard's Department Store in the new Avenues Mall. She was manager of the accessories department and loved it. She also enjoyed her position in customer service at AT&T.
Jane graduated from the new Wolfson High School as part of the first graduating class in 1966. She attended North Florida Junior College in Madison, FL. Jane started and was President of Sigma Tau Omega Sorority. Her best friends from High School also attended. Jane's friendships of over 60 years was with many of those young women. Their friendships lasted until her death.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John Joseph Vogt who passed away on March 11, 2020. Jane is survived by two daughters: Andrea Jane Sandven and Roseanne Kelly. Jane and John were so blessed to have 4 grandchildren: Roseanne's children Kenny Kelly and Dana Kelly, and Andrea's children Jaden Sandven and Cade Hollie. Jane and John passed away shortly before becoming great- grandparents to Dana's twins. Jane is also survived by her sister Julia Thompson and her children Amy Thompson and John Thompson (Renee).
Pastor George Spencer of Crossroad UMC will officiate at The Celebration of Life for Jane and John Vogt on October 19, 2020 at 11 AM. It will be held at The Hampton Glen Clubhouse, 8515 Hampton Ridge Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32256. It will be followed at 2:30 PM, with Military Honors for John J. Vogt and his wife Jane H. Vogt with a vault on the Memorial Wall of The Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
In lieu of flowers please make your gift in Jane Vogt's name to the Jacksonville Humane Society at 8464 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32216.
