On Saturday, September 29, 2018, Jay Marshall Smith entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 60. Jay was born on November 7, 1957 in Jacksonville, IL to James (Jim) Smith and Donna Smith. Jay is preceded in death by his mother, Donna Smith and sister, Carrie Smith. He is survived by his father Jim Smith, siblings, Virginia "Ginny" Smith and Greg Smith of St. Augustine, FL and Katie Lane of Elkton, FL. Former wife Adele Nettles Smith, His two children Michele Renee Lindsay and her husband Joshua Drew Lindsay of Jacksonville, FL and Angela Carol Powers of Jacksonville, FL five grandchildren, Donald Jay Lindsay, Johnny Ray Lindsay, Daniel Isaiah Lindsay, Noel Lucille Powers and Rilynn Marie Byrd. Jay graduated from Sanford Central High School, Sanford, NC in 1976. He joined the US Navy from 1977-1980 and served on the Aircraft Carrier, USS Saratoga (CV 60) as an E3 machinist mate and was honorably discharged in 1980. Jay spent the last 20 years in faithful service to Johnson and Johnson Vision (JJV) where he was well loved. Jay was an avid marksman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. Over the last year of his life, Jay suffered with esophageal cancer which caused him to turn his eyes to Jesus for salvation. He passed peacefully knowing he would spend eternity in heaven with his Savior, Jesus Christ. Arrangements are made by Naugle Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 6th 10:00AM at Family Bible Church, 4760 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082. Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, October 9th 10:30AM at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
