John attended Palatka High School and was in ROTC, played the trumpet in the band, he went on to be a merchant mariner upgrading to an Able-bodied Seaman Unlimited. He loved to dance. He enjoyed karate as a child and has read many books in his life. He had an amazing sense of humor, charisma. He was smart, witty, sensitive, and a hard worker but the chains of addiction were too strong for him to break out and in the end locked him in.
John suffered from addiction for quite a few years after a major surgery where opiates were written for a year, as many others in this country were caught up in the over-prescribing of opiates and influx of drugs into this country. He was 8 months clean and then he wasn't.
His family, especially his mom, never ever gave up on him and did everything possible to help him recover. She treated him like a son, not an addict. She learned to love the addict, not the disease.
John will be cremated with close family in attendance at a very small service full of love and prayer. A celebration of life will be held in Quitman, Georgia at a later later date.
A special thank you to his Aunt Holly during this difficult time for the outpouring of love and assuming responsibilities a parent should never have to do. We thank her from the bottom of our hearts.
In lieu of flowers a donation to The Addicts mom would be appreciated.
