John "Jay" W. Painter, 87, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, in Jacksonville, Florida.
He served a proud military career in the US Navy for 22 years when retiring as a Senior Chief at NAS Whiting Field in Milton, Florida. He then went on to work as a Line Supervisor for Burnside-Ott, a Navy contractor, for the next 10 years before happily retiring to a life of golfing to his heart's desire; and that was a lot. He loved the sport as well as all his golfing buddies.
Jay is survived by 7 children: Patricia Painter Richardson; David Painter; Kenneth Painter (Tammy); Ronald Painter; Regina Shell Tolbert Begard (Michel); Rebecca Shell Reid; Reba Shell Morrell (Edward); 15 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Joan Register (Leon); brother, James Painter (Sharon) and several nieces and nephews.
Jay was preceded in death by his wife, Annie; parents, Ben and Laura Painter; sister, Lula Dungan and brother, Ben Painter, Jr.
There will be a private family ceremony to be held at a later date in Milton, Florida.
