Joyce Lester, 85, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2019 in Jacksonville, Florida after a brief illness.
Joyce leaves behind her daughter, Julie Mathews and Son-in-Law Monty in St. Johns, Florida who so lovingly cared for her, beloved only granddaughter Alicia Glawe, great grandson's Gregory Balser and Hunter Vincent, who adored their "Gigi" and will miss her smile and hugs terribly.
Joyce is preceded in death by her late husband George Lester who was the love of her life.
Joyce is also survived by a son, Donald (Marcia) Lester of Bay City, MI as well as grandson's Christopher (Katie) Lester and Chad Lester, also of Bay City, MI, great grandchildren Carsen and Kinley and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Family and friends were Joyce's passion and delight. Everywhere she went she imparted kindness and conversation. Joyce was a listener which was why people were drawn to her. Her daughter, Julie, whom she told everyone "was her world" will miss their daily talks and times together. Her only granddaughter Alicia was so very special to Joyce and they had many wonderful times together over the years.
Over the past 5 years, Joyce lived near her daughter in Jacksonville, Florida where she made some wonderful friends. Her special friend Nancy Madaio often called her "mom" and so lovingly watched out for her and assisted the family in her care.
Joyce also missed so many dear friends from Michigan when she relocated to Florida in 2014 and she often shared many heartwarming stories with Julie about all the people that were dear to her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Community Hospice of North Florida

her while she was ill.
The family is planning a future memorial service to be held in Michigan in the spring time and will notify friends and family when the plans are complete.
