Julia Ann "Judie" Carroll Holden left her earthly body on March 24, 2024. Judie was born on June 26, 1941 in Monte Verde, Florida, the third child of Lucille Bass and Aaron Dennis "A.D." Carroll. She loved learning and was a strong student growing up. A decided extrovert, she loved meeting new people, making friends and was voted "Friendliest Girl" of Dan McCarty High School in 1959.
She attended nurse's training at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orlando, Florida and nurtured a strong interest in the healing arts. She was elected student body president and was proud to serve in this role. During this time, she met Carl Reese Holden at Delaney Street Baptist Church in Orlando and they married on December 15, 1962. Judie was a devoted wife to her "honey" for nearly 62 years.
Rooted in her strong ancestry of pioneering, Judie and Carl blazed their own paths as servants of Christ and humanity. They became Home Missionaries for the Southern Baptist Convention in 1970 and served as pastoral and social ministers in Massachusetts and Utah until 1987. Upon returning home to Florida, Judie continued to serve patients by providing guidance with hospitalization care planning through the insurance system. She was extremely devoted to her work and very proud to be a graduate of the "3-year Registered Nurse" programs.
A thrifty and astute financial planner, Judie was able to retire early in 2001 and described this time of her life as her happiest. She and Carl enjoyed traveling, both domestically and internationally, and Judie continued to serve in various roles in her church and her neighborhood. The daughter of a nurseryman, her green thumb produced beautiful flowers, plants and delicious food, and she was gardening just a few weeks before her passing. Judie was a "can-do" person and taught herself how to sew, cook, upholster furniture and make candles, just to name a few. She loved music and expressed this through playing the piano and singing favorite hymns.
Judie was an engaged and fiercely loving parent to Lisa Carroll Holden Haake (George) and Lynn P. Holden, grandparent to Bethany Kotlar (Alex), Carter Hutchens (Bek), Brennan Haake and Logan Haake, and great-grandparent to Teddy Kotlar. She was a constant champion of our well-being and success. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 27, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at Aspire Church San Marco, Jacksonville, FL.
