June M. Mahoney, 86, entered into eternal peace on August 8, 2014 after a short illness. June was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur A. Mahoney, Jr., (2003) and former husband Tommy C. Craddock. She is survived by her daughter, Alisa L. Craddock, son, Michael S. Craddock (Barbara), granddaughter Taylor and grandson Brent, and great granddaughter Audrey. Born in Nashua, NH in May, 1928, to Harold F. and Lillian Whitten, June was the eldest of three children. Her brother, Robert, died in 1952 while serving in Korea, and sister, Janet passed away in 1988. In her late teens, June worked during the fall and winter seasons at a resort hotel in Florida. This was the beginning of a continuing career in the hospitality industry and a love affair with Florida. Later, she worked at Riverside Gown shop. June met her first husband, Tommy C. Craddock, USN, in Boston (m. 1951). She and Tommy had two children, Michael and Alisa. She considered raising two good kids her greatest accomplishment. The family moved to Jacksonville in 1962. Later in life, June met her second husband, Wilbur A (Bill) Mahoney, Jr. She and Bill traveled extensively and enjoyed each other’s companionship until Bill’s passing in 2003. Afterward she lived with her daughter Alisa until August 2011. Her remaining years were spent at Elmcroft of Timberlin Parc. Earlier this year, June remarked how much she loved living at Elmcroft. Another accomplishment of which she was proud was her tireless effort to get a sidewalk installed on Theresa Drive when Brookview Elementary School was first built. The sidewalk went in, and the kids had a safe place to walk to school. June was active in the PTA and Safety Council during those years before reentering the work force. June loved reading, scrapbooking, and crossword puzzles. She explored the world through the books that she read and collected. She loved history, wildlife, art, and a good mystery. June passed this love of reading on to both her children. Later in her life she took up drawing. She found she had a talent for it. Funeral services are under the care of Naugle Funeral Home, 1203 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 121 E. Duval St. in Downtown Jacksonville on Thursday, August 14 at 10:00am, and interment will be at Chapel Hills Memory Gardens at 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. N. in Jacksonville following the Mass. There will be a vigil and Rosary at Naugle Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The Rosary will begin at 7:00pm.
