Kathleen Marie Kumler Nichols, 82 passed away peacefully on June 8, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida, 5 years after suffering a stroke while battling dementia.
Kathleen was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on May 2, 1942, and lived most of her life in the Harrisburg area, residing in New Buffalo, Marysville, Duncannon, Lemoyne, and Harrisburg. As a Navy wife, she also lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Newport, Rhode Island; Athens, Greece; then moved to Jacksonville, Florida, soon after her retirement for three years and then again in 2017 where she lived until passing.
Kathy loved gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren and pets. Wherever she lived she cultivated a beautiful garden and her crochet projects included clothing, toys, decor, and practical items like potholders. She was known for the time she spent with her grandchildren as well as other children, teaching them crafting, cooking, gardening and anything else they wanted to learn. She was also known for her relationship with her Pekingese dogs and cats, training one of her cats to walk on a leash. Kathy was an Assistant Drug Buyer for Rite Aid Pharmacy main office in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania for over 30 years.
Kathy was preceded in death by her son, Jack Michael Nichols, and her parents, Andrew Jack Kumler and Ruth Zimmerman Kumler. She was married and divorced twice, to Clayton Nichols and John Snyder, both of whom also preceded her in death.
Kathy is survived by her son, Todd Nichols, daughter, Andrea Garber; sisters Betty Opacic and Gail Kumler; grandchildren, Laura Vondrak and Stephen Nichols; and great grandchildren: Josiah, Gideon and Tovah Vondrak, and Micah and Michala Nichols.
Kathy will be laid to rest in Duncannon, Pennsylvania. Services are yet to be scheduled.
