Kathryn Tillotson Parkhurst, 76, of Jacksonville, FL passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 following a brief illness. Kathryn was born in Jacksonville, FL. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1958 and Massey Business College. She worked in marketing/sales at Furchgott’s Department Store in the 1960’s, as an Administrative Assistant with NCOAA in the 1980-1990’s in Alexandria, VA, and Publix before retiring in 2010.
In her youth her hobbies included singing in the choir at Riverside Park United Methodist Church, figure skating, and playing the Cello. Kathryn was very social, she belonged to the Women’s Club of Jacksonville, Eastern Star, and Officer’s Wives Club. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. They lived in Jacksonville, FL; Norfolk, VA; Denver, CO; Taipei, Taiwan; Providence, RI; Alexandria, VA; Stuttgart, Germany; and Alexandria, VA again before returning to Jacksonville, FL. Some of the places they visited while abroad were Munich, Frankfurt, Paris, Vienna, Rome, Naples, and Hong Kong.
She is survived by her daughter Leslie Smith and husband Jonathon Smith of Remington, VA; her son James Parkhurst and wife Caryn Parkhurst of Jacksonville, FL; and her granddaughter Lindsey Johnson and husband Dave Johnson of Chantilly, VA. Preceded in death by her husband, LCDR James C. Parkhurst, USN(RET); parents Leslie and Lillian (King) Tillotson; Uncle and Aunt, John and Francis McLauren; and cousin, John King McLauren.
She will be laid to eternal rest with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
