Layton Davidson Whitehead

WHITEHEAD Layton D. Whitehead passed away on September 11, 2015. He was born in Augusta, GA on June 6, 1923 to Marion and Ida Whitehead. He attended the University of Florida for 3 years before serving in the Army Air Corps for three years as a pilot. He worked as an accountant for several years in Columbia, SC. He then worked in the Bahamas for 7 years, after which he returned to Jacksonville and worked in sales and security at JC Penney s until his retirement in 2009 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sadie L. Whitehead. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann, 3 stepsons: Michael, Chris and Anthony (Amber); 3 step grandchildren, Christian, Conner and Cailen. He is also survived by his niece, Bonnie (Larry) Sparks; sister-in-law Doris Padgett and several other nieces and nephews, along with two of his closest friends, John Timmerman of Columbia, SC and David Williard of Jacksonville. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM on October 9, 2015 at Riverside Baptist Church, 2650 Park St., Jacksonville. Interment with military honors will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., North Jacksonville at 2 PM.
