Lucy Carter Powell
February 20, 1919 — January 3, 2017
Lucy Carter Powell, a native of Ashland, VA, passed away on January 3, 2017 at age 97. She was the youngest of three children born to Charles Harrison and Ogie Skelton Carter. Lucy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Commander John Furman Powell of Suffolk, VA. She is survived by her only child, daughter Hill Carter Powell of Jacksonville, FL.
In her youth, Lucy was a passionate equestrian. Following her marriage, she relocated to San Francisco where she worked at the Presidio during WWII. Her husband’s military service required numerous relocations throughout the country. She was a champion golfer and avid bridge player in retirement.
Lucy will be buried with her cherished husband at Arlington National Cemetery.
