With a heavy yet joyful heart, we announce the passing of Luz Herminia Cruz, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world on December 17, 2024, at the age of 70, after a life filled with love, laughter, and connection. Born in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, Luz embraced her Hispanic roots while spending much of her life in New Jersey and Florida.
Luz was a fixture in her family's life, known for her warmth, kindness, and welcoming nature. A lover of dancing and Spanish music, she delighted in sharing her passion for life's celebrations with everyone around her. In her healthier days, she generously volunteered for several nonprofit organizations, always seeking to give back to her community.
Luz dedicated 50 remarkable years of her life to Citi, where she thrived as a manager, touching the lives of many through her work and her vibrant personality. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elena and Andres Cortes, beloved son, Adrian Cortes as well as three of her sisters, Anilda, Mercedes, and Maria Cortes. A proud matriarch of a large family, she was one of ten siblings, and she leaves behind her cherished daughter, Alyssa Cooley, her four beloved grandchildren: Adrianna Cooley, Mateo Cooley, Elena L. Cortes, and Ian Cortes, along with her six siblings, Elba Salinas, Diana Neira, Ramon Cortes, Leonardo Cortes, Maria Duckett, and Raul Cortes. She is also survived be many nieces and nephews.
Luz cremains will be laid to rest peacefully alongside her beloved son, Adrian Cortes.
A memorial service celebrating Luz's vibrant life will be held on January 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Naugle Funeral Home, 1203 Hendricks Avenue Jacksonville, FL 32207. We invite all who knew and loved Luz to join us in honoring her legacy of love and joy. Let us come together to share memories, laughter, and dance, just as she would have wanted.
Luz, you will be deeply missed, but your spirit will forever light our hearts.
